Home Tour ~ Kitchen

I am a frequenter to a great blog Kelly's Korner. Kelly is hosting a Show Us Where You Live Home Tour where every Friday a different room in your home will be "showcased" Well I just love this idea and have loved looking in on all the kitchens, so I decided to join in on the tour.

This is my china. My grandmother saved this for me since I was a little girl. I could not wait until I got married so this could be mine =)

These beautiful dishes were given to me by my wonderful husband. He purchased them for me during his first deployment for Operation Iraq Freedom. How wonderful is he?!?

This is my Christmas china. Holiday Tartan (I think) by Lenox. We love holiday's around the Crow house! On Christmas morning all the family comes to our house and we serve up a big southern breakfast and watch the kids open santa.

Our everyday dishes. Italian Countryside by Mikasa. And yes, we really do eat off these everyday.

The eat in kitchen. We eat most of our meals here, but sometimes we picnic outside when the weather permits. Notice the empty curtain rods...we are in the midst of a kitchen remodel and I have not been able to make the curtains yet, but I am going to get to that very soon =)

The recently finished kitchen cabinets. They were an oak color...that is until we sanded them down, painted them white, and put a black glaze on top. I am so glad that part of the kitchen remodel is over =)

Another view of the cabinets. Notice the white cabinet paint still on the walls...like I said we are still in the midst of the remodel so we have not touched up the red paint yet.

The curtains I am making for the windows are the same damask design that is on this plate.

Dinner is in the crock pot...today is laundry day so I went with easy =)

I love cookbooks....I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have 3 (yes 3) cabinets of nothing but cookbooks. I love to cook and I really do use every one of the books.

Here is my collection of Southern Living Cookbooks

Hope you enjoyed the first installment of the Home Tour. Check back on Friday for the next stop of the tour....The Living Room

A View and an update

Just wanted to share the view from our kitchen this evening. We were just finishing up with dinner, when we looked out the window and saw this...

Jason leaves the deer corn and all sorts of fruit to eat on. I am so glad that he does this because we get to enjoy this view...

And the update....Jason made it through his first day back to civilian work. He said he is having to relearn all his customers names/businesses. I am sure that it will all come back to him soon. The kids and I did really well too. Jack only asked to call Jason twice today and I let him. I figured that Jason would not mind that at all =). It was good for Jack. As soon as he talked to his daddy, he was fine. Jack did ask me at least 50 times today when his daddy would be home and he would not take a nap just in case his daddy called so he would not miss it. Jack colored his daddy 5 pictures and helped me prepare dinner for tonight. So yay! First day down with no problems =) Thanks for all the prayers!
And in closing...I will leave you with a picture of the kids after church yesterday.

Busy, Busy

It has been a very busy week around the Crow house! I managed to finish the cabinets this week (thanks to my great friend Jami!) The kitchen is almost complete now...just need to make the window treatments, touch up wall paint, and put the finishing touches on the decor. I am posting a before and after of the cabinets (but I will do a post later with the whole kitchen remodel after it is completed)

The cabinets after being sanded down and painted white.

The finished product after we put the glaze on.

This week Jack had an Art Show at his school. I must say that it was so much fun! I loved seeing all the great art pieces that the children made. So stinkin cute! Here are a few pictures from the show...

On Friday, Jason and I took the kids to the Baron's baseball game. We met up with my mom and my brother and it was a lot of fun! Jack liked it a lot and did not want to leave. Madeline just had fun playing in the bleachers =)

Then today, I went to a Ladies Retreat at church. I got to spend some valuable time with some really wonderful women. It was great getting to know each one of them better.

This week has really flown by for us (I guess because we have been so busy) But it has really been a lot of fun!

On a more serious note...I did want to share something. Jason will be returning to the "real working world" on Monday. This is going to be hard for all of us, but unfortunately it is time. I am sharing this because I am asking for prayers for Jason and the kids. Jason has not been in the "real working world" since Jan. of 2008. Please pray for him as he is making the transition from soldier to civilian. I can not imagine how difficult this may be for him. Also, please pray for the kids. Jack is still struggling with fear that his daddy is leaving again. Pray that they will understand that daddy will be coming home in the evenings. This adjustment to life after deployment is really challenging. We are all still trying to adjust and we know that it will take time. I pray that this return to the "real working world" will not be a set back for us. Thank you everyone for your prayers...that mean a lot!
