In honor of Veteran’s Week 2010 I am so excited to be able to offer 2 (yes, 2!) of you lucky readers an opportunity to win a really excellent book: Faith Deployed, Daily Encouragement for Military Wives
I was contacted by the author, Jocelyn Green, and was asked if I would like to review this book and give-a-way a copy of it to two lucky readers. Well, I jumped at the chance to be able to do this. I reviewed this book a little over a year ago at the end of our 2nd deployment and now that we are in #3, I found myself already turning the pages of this very uplifting and encouraging devotional.
Here is an excerpt from the introduction:
If you have ever felt overlooked and undernourished as you strive daily to meet the needs of everyone around you-in a culture that largely does not understand your stressful lifestyle-this book is for you. Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives is not a guide to long-distance relationships or a how-to on navigating through the military culture. It does not offer “ten easy steps” for an easier, painless life. Instead, through squarely addressing the challenges you face, Faith Deployed will equip you to respond biblically to the daily struggles that threaten to wear you down.
As a Christian and a military reservist wife who has been through multiple deployments, I am always on the look-out for a book for military wives that is written from a Christian perspective (NOT a follow these "ten easy steps" for a smooth deployment) If that is what you are looking for, then this is the book for you! I found this book to be full of compassion and grace. Each writer featured in this devotional have not only been there done that, they bring these experiences to readers while offering hope to those who are experiencing the unique demands of the military life and are in need of comfort. As many of you know, deployment is a very trying and challenging time. Not only is deployment challenging on our marriages and families, but it can also be challenging in our walk with God. This book is filled with devotions and appropriate scriptures that remind us of the hope we have in Christ and that in spite of the emotional roller coaster we can rest in that hope. The contributing authors in Faith Deployed shared stories of struggle that I could identify with. I was so inspired, often moved to tears, and uplifted all at the same time by reading their stories. Not only did the authors share their struggles, but they challenged me to look deeper (asking myself where my true feelings were), encouraged me to pray and jolted my efforts toward Christ
In closing, there are 2 things I want you to know:
1. The focus of this book is the unchanging, everlasting character of God. Even in our darkest storms He does not change!
2. I highly recommend this book if you are a military spouse, know someone who is a military spouse, or would like a glimpse into the struggles faced by the military spouse. The devotionals are easy to read and really are a “daily encouragement for military wives”

I would love to win this book for my best friend who's husband will be deploying in the next couple of days. This is their second deployment in their three years of marriage. She had their first child while he was deployed last time and will have their second baby while he is deployed this time. She could sure use the encouragement:) Even if I don't win this for her, I will definitely be buying it:) Thanks so much for this opportunity!
Great giveaway Jessica! This would be a great book for me to read! It seems like the word deployment is constantly coming up at our house and then falling through. I never know if this time will be the "time". Would be great to have this book on the ready!
I would like to have this book. This is our second deployment and we have been together 7 1/2 years. This deployment is alot harder than the first time because we just got together then. But now we have our daughter and we were used to being together all the time. I need a little encouragement for myself to help me get through this. Thank you.
I would like to win this for a friend who is having a hard time right now. I've heard about this book and think it would be fantastic!
Jessica, I can't even imagine what spouses of military men and women go through before, during, and after deployment. My neighbor, Cyntha, is preparing for her husband to deploy soon and I would love to share this book with her.
I would love to have this book for myself!! I am a strong christian woman, and I know this book will help me during this deployment!! We sometimes go astray from HIS path, but with HIS love and faith we come back. I need help for me and Bree while my hubby is gone!! Pick ME!!! LOL
Jessica,
Thank you so much for the review! Your description of it is spot-on, and I LOVE that you highlighted the focus of the book being on the unchanging character of God. He is our rock for our every storm.
Good luck to all who enter the drawing!
I would love this book! we are only a few months into our first deployment. It was so hard seeing our son turn one and daddy not being there :( praying this deployment goes by fast!
Thanks for the opportunity!
Hi! I would love this book. I have been through several deployments but this is only 5 months into it and we have already had 6 major life changing events. Im kinda going crazy. :-/ Thank You for giving us a chance to win a copy! Hugs!
I love your review of the book. I would absolutely love this book. My husband left for Afghanistan a week ago. We have only been married for 7 months. I have a brother who deployed 2 years ago and expected this one to be easy since I've been through one before. Boy was I wrong. I would love for this year to fly by..Thank you for the opportunity!
A co-worker of mine introduced me to Faith Deployed:Daily encouragement for military wives on Facebook. My husband left for a 12 month deployment 2 weeks ago. I would love to have this book as another resource to get me through this tough time. Thank you.
This sounds like an amazing book. My husband and I were married in April of this year and he was deployed in July. Being a newlywed and surviving my first deployment are quite the challenge most days. With my husband being in the Army National Guard the support groups and people who undestand what you are going thru are few and far between. I look foward to the day my love and I are together again!
I would love to read this. My boyfriend is in the Air Force and I know that deployments will be in our future...
I tried to get my copy today and the sales lay told us as soon as they hit the shelves they are sold out!
